Our Cause

Waveney Hospice Care

What Do we Do?

We are a registered charity whose aim is to help anyone in Waveney who needs palliative care

and would benefit from day care or care at home.

What is Palliative Care.

Palliative Care improves the quality of life for patients suffering from illnesses for which there is no cure.

Home Care.

Waveney Hospice Care funds home care, both day and night for patients who might otherwise be hospitalized.

This also can provide respite for their full time carers.

Day Care.

Waveney Hospice care funds day care for patients in the Waveney area in All Hallows Hospital, Ditchingham

and Beccles Hospital, and it is hoped shortly to commence a scheme in Lowestoft.

Following an initial assessment, the services provided include review of medication, symptom control,

physiotherapy, bathing, hairdressing and alternative therapies. Apart from medical and nursing services,

emotional support is given for both patient and carer. This day care also enables carers to enjoy a break knowing

that the patient is receiving  care, comfort, refreshment and company. A nourishing lunch is provided together

with morning coffee and afternoon tea. To many, their visit to day care is the highlight of the week

and provides an opportunity to meet and make friends.

How?

These services are available by referral from hospital departments, GP's, district nurses, and Macmillan nurses.

By whom?

Trained nurses and clinicians assisted by fully trained volunteers.

Education

Waveney Hospice Care funds further training and personal development or professional staff, training for

volunteers and education of patients and family carers in palliative care.

WAVENEY HOSPICE CARE NEEDS YOUR HELP

We always needs volunteers to help in the day centres, i.e. help with serving lunch and refreshments, chatting,

playing games writing letters and with nursing services. A few hours a month would help a lot, a day a week would be marvellous.

Financial help is always needed, as we rely entirely on donations and fundraising events for our income. You can make, a gift,

a bequest, a covenant, a Gift Aid payment, or organise a fundraising event. The annual cost for running a day centre is in excess

of £ 30,000.
